Because Peanut allergies can be fatal, they are rearing their head as a growing concern in the minds of parents and schools

According to Hugh Sampson, of Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York , "only about 15% (of children) will ever outgrow their peanut allergy, and this tends to be children who have fairly mild reactions for the most part, and tend to have low levels of IgE to peanut."

Once you have learned yourself about how to treat peanut allergic symptons, you should take it upon  yourself to notify your child's teacher about how to recognize symptoms and what steps to tack in the event of an attack.

Don't assume that teachers will know what to do in the event of a life-threatening allergic reaction.

You should find out ahead of time what your school's procedures are for dealing with peanut allergic reactions. If your school has a website, look for the information there. If not, make an appointment to talk directly with the school nurse, your child's teachers, and the school principal, if possible.
